On Syed Hamid Albar’s comment regarding the arrest of Journalist Tan Hoon Cheng, the reason he gave is truly a mockery of our intelligence.
Excerpts from Malaysiakini:
Speaking from Johor Baru this morning, Syed Hamid justified Tan’s detention under the ISA with the reason that it was part of the government’s preventive measure “to ensure her safety”.
The minister claimed police intelligence have indicated that the journalist’s life was under threat after she reported an Umno division leader’s allegedly racist remarks.
To ensure her safety???
If you get intelligence of someone trying to harm her, why isn’t the suspect be arrested under ISA instead?
Let’s consider how many “reasons” the BN government can arrest you under ISA.
1. You are a threat to national security.
2. You face is ugly, therefore some may want to punch you.
3. You are a threat to some big shots political security.
4. You tell the truth (like RPK).
5. You make a statement that no one can proof that you are wrong (like RPK).
6. Someone accuse you of insulting Islam (does not matter if it is true, like Teresa).
7. You led an “illegal” demonstration (like the HINDRAF 5) and you are not someone in-law.
Wow! at least 7 perfect reasons. I’m sure you can think of more reasons.
